One thing we love about Mazda vehicles at El Dorado Mazda is the creativity they inspire in their drivers. Take, for example, the RingBanana, named after its color and its speedy endeavors around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The RingBanana is a car with a mission. The goal was to buy the cheapest running Miata available, put as little money into it as possible, and set some record laps with it at the legendary ‘Ring. The guys behind the project left it largely stock except for some Fulda performance tires, aftermarket springs, and a stripped interior.
In their original test, they got it around the circuit in just under 9 minutes and 22 seconds. After equipping a new set of Kumho V70A semi-slick, road-legal tires, they set a lap time of 8 minutes and 59.9 seconds. Oh, did we forget to mention? They don’t even know the car’s model year and it only has 90 horsepower. That’s right, 90 horsepower did the Nordschleife in under 9 minutes. Incredible!
