The Mazda6 sedan is getting a new look, setting new standards for automotive design and engineering. Mazda recently announced that the redesigned Mazda6 sedan will make an appearance at the 2017 LA Auto Show, and it now has sweeping contours, a signature fascia, and a suite of new technologies.
According to Mazda, the Mazda6 is getting a “Mature Elegance” design, which features high-quality interior materials like Japanese Sen Wood and exclusive accents. There’s also a range of updated i-ACTIVSENSE safety systems to give you added protection, while a SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine will be added for the upcoming model year.
“The Mazda6 is the flagship of Mazda’s passenger car lineup,” stated Mazda in a press release. “The development team’s goal for this round of updates, the third since the model was fully redesigned in 2012, was to enhance the daily lives of people who love cars, incorporating premium details and new engineering concepts and technologies based on Mazda’s human-centered design philosophy.”
Mazda’s goal by 2030 is to rethink mobility via sustainable design efforts, and the latest Mazda6 is part of that process. Improved aerodynamics and lightweight materials help to improve gas mileage, while the SKYACTIV engine technology reduces emissions compared to older generations.
We at El Dorado Mazda can’t wait to see the latest Mazda6 on our dealership lot.
Mazda has officially announced that it plans to add smartphone integration compatibility across the lineup, but hasn’t released an official date just yet. The Japanese automaker made the official announcement at the debut of the 2017 Mazda CX-5. Best of all, the new smartphone integration technologies won’t be limited to brand new models.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities will come to the Mazda lineup in the near future. New vehicles won’t be the only models available with the technologies. Drivers will be able to upgrade retroactively with additional hardware. The catch: the vehicle must be equipped with Mazda Connect.
Mazda Connect, the brand’s infotainment system, launched in the 2017 Mazda3 and has made its way to each model through the lineup. Enthusiasts and experts expect something similar to occur with the release of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Japanese automaker has partnered with both smartphone integration systems since 2014, so new software arriving in Mazda vehicles has been a long time coming. While the brand doesn’t have an official timeline just yet, drivers can expect to see more details on the rollout plan in the near future.
We here at El Dorado Mazda are pumped to see such innovative technologies arriving throughout the lineup!
Diesel engines are all the rage in the European automotive market, but they don’t have the same popularity in North America. This is about to change, though, thanks to Mazda. The Japanese carmaker recently announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show that the all-new Mazda CX-5 engine option will be the brand’s SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel.
“We’re confident this engine offers a smart new option for North American drivers who want both performance and fuel economy,” said Akira Marumoto, Mazda’s Executive Vice President and Representative Director.
This new diesel engine will arrive in the North American market for the second half of 2017. It will make the Mazda CX-5 one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class, thanks to the fact that it meets the region’s strict emission standards. In addition, the engine quiets the sound of diesel knock with technology like Natural Sound Smoother and Natural Sound Frequency Control.
The diesel engine isn’t just fuel-efficient, though—it is also powerful. It revs freely to high RPMs, which means that it will accelerate quickly and provide a fun driving experience for all drivers. When a driver chooses the new Mazda CX-5 engine option, they are sure to fall in love with driving all over again.

Allow the cufflinks to speak to the gift recipient’s love of vehicles, even when he’s in the conference room making a pitch.
GoPro. Every racer wants to get better, which is why a GoPro camera is a top-notch choice if you have a slightly larger holiday gift budget than normal. This action-ready camera can be used in a multitude of ways, including being used to film leg and hand movements while a driver is going around the track. This allows them to see how to improve their driving skills, therefore improving their time. What better gift than a better lap?
Driving school. Racetracks around the United States have a number of driving schools that will fulfill any racecar lover’s dream. No matter what type of racing your car lover enjoys, you are likely to find a school that will cater to it. These schools are expensive, though, so keep that in mind if you decide to give your car enthusiast the gift of driving.
As the culmination of Mazda performance engineering, the Mazda MX-5 Cup racecar is one of the most impressive models in the industry. Handcrafted over months and designed explicitly for the track, this Cup car is made to show the full potential of the MX-5, one of the most iconic roadsters around. Believe it or not, the 100th Mazda MX-5 Cup racecar recently sold, helping Mazda to reach a historic milestone.
According to Mazda, the Mazda MX-5 Cup racecar was ordered by the Monticello Motor Club, a world premier race track and country club near New York City. The Cup car comes with 80-percent stock parts, though it does get cold-air intake and exhaust headers. The standard 2.0-liter engine powers this model, though Mazda does remove significant weight by stripping the car of its passenger seat and insulation.
“When we announced this program, we set our target at 50 cars in the U.S. in 2016,” said John Doonan, director of motorsports at Mazda. “To double that goal in less than a year is a huge endorsement by our customers that they see this car as the best value in sports car racing today. We’re thrilled that the growing market for track day cars is seeing the MX-5 Cup car as an ideal purchase.”
The Cup car also gets thick tires to better grip the track, a mandatory roll cage to meet racing specifications, and some unique badging to showcase the Cup-car design. Overall, this 155-horsepower model weighs in at just over 2100 pounds, making it a blur on the track. MX-5 Cup cars often compete annually at the Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup and the Road America race among other events.
When Mazda wins awards, they don’t just get one here and there on luck. They often take the whole cake, or at least a generous portion.

We might have all been taught how to change a tire in driver’s education, or by our mom or dad, but that was a while ago, wasn’t it? So here’s a refresher course:
- Use a wrench to loosen the lug nuts – Just loosen them, don’t take them off yet. You can try standing on the wrench arm if the lug nut is very tight.
- Use the jack to lift the vehicle off the ground – Make sure you consult the owner’s manual so you know where to place the jack. Jack it up until the car is about 6 inches off the ground.
- Remove the lug nuts and pull the tire off the car – Pull the tire straight towards you.
- Place the replacement on the car & put on the lug nuts – Line up the holes and push the spare all the way into the wheel base, then insert the lug nuts into the holes loosely.
- Lower the car back to the ground – Use the jack to lower it back down, then remove it from underneath the car.
- Tighten the lug nuts – Do this one at a time until they can’t be turned anymore.
This is a quick-fix guide for if you get a flat, but if you’re changing seasonal tires, or just changing one, it’s best to bring it to your dealership so ensure you’ll be driving safely once the tires are replaced!
Mazda has been named the most fuel-efficient automaker in the US by the Environmental Protection Agency in its annual Light Duty Fuel Economy Trends report for the third year in a row.
Based on the 2014 model year, the latest year the EPA has data on, Mazda has the highest fleet-wide adjusted fuel economy in the industry at 29.4 mpg and the lowest average CO2 emissions at 328, despite the absence of any hybrid or electric cars in its lineup.
Mazda cars achieve this thanks to their use of SKYACTIV technology, a suite of components and tech that work together to make engines more efficient and cars and their parts more lightweight. SKYACTIV engines use direct fuel injection to boost fuel economy.
The whole Mazda lineup uses SKYACTIV technology, including the all-new 2016 Mazda CX-9, which will include a new 2.5-liter turbocharged SKYACTIV engine. The SKYACTIV tech in the Mazda CX-3 gives it class-leading fuel economy among compact SUVs and crossovers.
If you’re looking for a car that’s kind to the environment without sacrificing performance, Mazda’s lineup offers the most efficient cars in the industry without the hybrid premium. In 2016, a new accessible playground will open in McKinney, just ten minutes from the El Dorado Mazda dealership. We’re so proud to be located in a city whose Rotary Club and city government respond to the needs of McKinney’s disabled children, who make up 10% of the students enrolled in the McKinney Independent School District.
The McKinney All-Abilities Playground will be in Bonnie Werk Park, and construction will begin in spring of 2016, with the playground opening in the second half of the year. The playground will include a wide variety of unique equipment to make it accessible to children with physical disabilities as well as developmental disabilities, from wheelchair users to children living with muscular dystrophy to children with Down’s Syndrome and autism.
The project was approved by the city council in late September. The city will provide the funding to build the playground and will also maintain the park once it opens. Bonnie Werk Park will be expanded with special bathrooms, more parking spaces for vans and buses for group trips, and wheelchair ramps. Over the months, the Rotary Club and city have raised over $560,000 from McKinney citizens to build the park.
