Diesel engines are all the rage in the European automotive market, but they don’t have the same popularity in North America. This is about to change, though, thanks to Mazda. The Japanese carmaker recently announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show that the all-new Mazda CX-5 engine option will be the brand’s SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel.
“We’re confident this engine offers a smart new option for North American drivers who want both performance and fuel economy,” said Akira Marumoto, Mazda’s Executive Vice President and Representative Director.
This new diesel engine will arrive in the North American market for the second half of 2017. It will make the Mazda CX-5 one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class, thanks to the fact that it meets the region’s strict emission standards. In addition, the engine quiets the sound of diesel knock with technology like Natural Sound Smoother and Natural Sound Frequency Control.
The diesel engine isn’t just fuel-efficient, though—it is also powerful. It revs freely to high RPMs, which means that it will accelerate quickly and provide a fun driving experience for all drivers. When a driver chooses the new Mazda CX-5 engine option, they are sure to fall in love with driving all over again.
