Mazda’s Crossover Sales Aims to Take Over Half of Total Sales

America’s hunger for crossover vehicles isn’t showing any signs of slowing, and Mazda has every intention of delivering more of what we want. According to a recent Automotive News article, Mazda aims for more than half of its US sales to be crossovers within the next two to three years.

Mazda’s crossover sales are expected to reach 300,000 vehicles in the US this year, and through August, the CX-3, CX-5, and CX-9 accounted for 40% of total U.S. sales. The wildly popular Mazda CX-5 is currently carrying the majority of those sales, however the all-new CX-3 subcompact crossover is showing major potential, and a redesigned Mazda CX-9 is scheduled to launch soon – both of which should help the automaker reach its goals in the coming years.

“In the past, we have had a business model with too much reliance on Mazda3 series,” Moro, managing executive officer of global sales coordination said. For example, in 2010, the Mazda3 accounted for 46 percent of Mazda’s US sales. “With that business model, it is very difficult to make good money,” he continued.

Here at El Dorado Mazda, we look forward to the debut of the upcoming CX-9. In the meantime, stop by to check out the exciting CX-5 and CX-3!
