Mark Your Calendars for the Annual McKinney Oktoberfest

September is here, and that means fall is coming. Everyone is ready to participate in the fun festivals and events that autumn brings our way. Here in McKinney, Texas, we celebrate the annual McKinney Oktoberfest at the end of September. If you live in the community or nearby, make sure you mark your calendar for Oktoberfest, coming up from September 22nd-24th.

Oktoberfest takes place in Historic Downtown McKinney on Main Street, bringing traditional local breweries and nearby restaurateurs for a celebration of all the delicious fare McKinney has to offer. With lots of traditional German goods, it’s easy for event-goers to immerse themselves in the fun activities and atmosphere of the festival. There will also be vendor stalls featuring locally-made crafts and art, in addition to tons of live entertainment, from music to games to a Weenie Dog Race.

You can purchase tickets for food, beverages, and rides online in advance so that you can beat the lines, but you don’t have to pay anything to get in; the event is free! Come to have fun with your community and welcome the beginning of autumn at the McKinney Oktoberfest in the Historic Downtown Area.

Those of us at El Dorado Mazda hope to see you there!

Back-to-School Safety Tips for Driving Parents

Back to School - McKinney, TexasDropping off your kids for class in the morning? Here are some back-to-school safety tips you should keep in mind to keep your kids—and everyone else’s—safe and sound.

  • Go Slow: School zones have slower speed limits for a reason. Make sure you obey the speed limit and follow all traffic laws while in a school zone to prevent a collision and ensure students get safely to school.
  • Watch for Pedestrians: Some children walk or ride their bikes to school. Pay attention to cross-walks and crossing guards, but there may also be some pedestrians jay-walking, so be aware of where you’re driving.
  • No Cell Phones: It may be tempting to call work to let them know you’ll be late or get some errands out of the way as you drop off your kids, but limit distractions by staying off the phone.
  • Be Mindful of the School Bus: The school bus should not be passed while it’s stopped and has its flashing red lights on, but you should also be careful of driving around and near a bus regardless of whether it’s stopping or moving.
