Celebrate National Teacher’s Day with These Car Gifts for Teachers

National Teacher's Day

If your kids attend school, you know how hard teachers work. May 6th is National Teacher’s Day, and when combined with the near end of the school year, this is a perfect time to show your appreciation. Since we love cars, here are some car gifts for teachers that are sure to brighten their day.

  • Car wash. Get their car looking fresh and clean again with a good wash. You could either gift them with a gift certificate to a local car wash or covertly wash their car yourself while they are teaching.
  • Detailing. For an even cleaner car, give them a gift certificate to get their car detailed.
  • Coffee break. Many of us drink a cup of coffee while driving to work and we’re sure that teachers are no exception. Use some investigative skills and learn what their favorite coffee shop is. Get them a gift basket filled with goodies, like a gift card, new travel mug, and coffee.
  • Car accessories. Give your teacher’s car a good look to see if they are missing any necessities, like a windshield sun shade or steering wheel cover. Talk to other teachers to see if they can drop some hints to give you some feedback as to what your teacher would really like.

If you are looking for some great car accessories, stop by our parts department here at El Dorado Mazda.

Mazda to Add Smartphone Integration Compatibility to Lineup

2017 Mazda CX-5 - Smartphone Integration Compatibility

Mazda has officially announced that it plans to add smartphone integration compatibility across the lineup, but hasn’t released an official date just yet. The Japanese automaker made the official announcement at the debut of the 2017 Mazda CX-5. Best of all, the new smartphone integration technologies won’t be limited to brand new models.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities will come to the Mazda lineup in the near future. New vehicles won’t be the only models available with the technologies. Drivers will be able to upgrade retroactively with additional hardware. The catch: the vehicle must be equipped with Mazda Connect.

Mazda Connect, the brand’s infotainment system, launched in the 2017 Mazda3 and has made its way to each model through the lineup. Enthusiasts and experts expect something similar to occur with the release of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Japanese automaker has partnered with both smartphone integration systems since 2014, so new software arriving in Mazda vehicles has been a long time coming. While the brand doesn’t have an official timeline just yet, drivers can expect to see more details on the rollout plan in the near future.

We here at El Dorado Mazda are pumped to see such innovative technologies arriving throughout the lineup!

How to Spring Clean Your Car

Spring Clean Your Car - Air VentsWith spring weather on the loose, it’s that time of year where you gotta stop making “it’s too cold” excuses and clean your car. El Dorado Mazda knows sometimes this can be an undertaking, so here are some top-notch points to get you started on the perfect automobile spring cleaning.

Get Out the Trash

This is the obvious one. Get a trash bag and a keep box, and just get everything out of your car that you don’t need with you every day. Don’t forget to hit the trunk, too.

Don’t Overlook Air Vents

The air vents in your car can be a major place to accumulate dust—and what’s worse, it blows it all over the interior. Use foam art brushes to get into those tiny places.

Scrub & Vacuum Carpet

Use a fine-bristled brush to knock the dirt out of all the nooks and crannies in the interior and scrub stubborn dirt out of the mats and carpet, then take a vacuum to your floors.

Hand Wash Exterior

Doing a good old-fashioned hand wash is the way to go. Just make sure you use a special soap formulated for washing cars; regular dish or hand soap can speed up wear and tear.

Do the Windows Last

Cleaning windows last will prevent them from getting other parts of the vehicle dirty. Use a cleaner without ammonia and use a microfiber cloth for a streak-free clean!

It’s easier than you think to clean your car in a way that gives it a lasting shine or if you’d rather a professional clean your car, schedule a service appointment at El Dorado Mazda today!

Best Places to Eat in Dallas

Places to eat in Dallas
Places to eat in Dallas

From Southern comforts to Tex-Mex to killer brunch or burgers, there are plenty of great places to eat in Dallas that everyone will love, no matter what your taste buds prefer.

Tacos

Tacos are one of many Dallas specialties. You’ll find deliciously seasoned carne asada tacos at Maskaras Mexican Grill, a lucha libre (Mexican professional wrestling) themed restaurant. Or, if you’re on the north side, stop at Urban Taco for fresh twists on classics.

Burgers

If you’re in Texas, you’ve got to try the Texas-based, 1950s chain Whataburger, which provides a classic—and classy—diner experience, promising excellent burgers and shakes. For something a little different, try Rodeo Goat where you can order the Royale With Cheese, featuring spiked ketchup and jalapeno bacon.

Brunch

If you’re a fan of carbs, then you really need to set aside a morning for brunch at Bread Winners Cafe. With a long list of waffles, pancakes and French toast flavors to choose from, you may want to set aside time for a nap, too. If you want something slightly more upscale and with a real Southern comfort food vibe, head to Hattie’s Restaurant where you can fill up on a Bloody Mary, shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes and other staples.

Celebrate Love with an Unconventional Valentine’s Day

unconventional Valentine's Day
It’s so sweet!

A romantic, candle-lit table for two is never a bad thing. But sometimes, a change of scenery is just what you need to celebrate your love for another. This year, try one of these unconventional Valentine’s Day dates.

Active Adventure

Instead of sitting in front of a movie theatre screen, plan a date where you and your partner can be active. Sip hot cocoa and work on your axles at the local ice skating rink. Or, take a rock-climbing class at a local facility.

Get Creative

If you and your partner are a little less athletic and a little more creative, look for different classes offered in your area. You might try painting, sculpting, writing or even all three. If you both have a love for good food, a couples cooking class might even start a new Friday night tradition.

Have an Indoor Take-Out Picnic

Instead of making reservations at a busy restaurant, create your own ambient restaurant at home. Lay blankets on the floor of your living room and set up candles and your favorite romantic music. Then, order your favorite take-out and pick up a nice bottle of wine or two and have a romantic night in.

Consumer Guide 2017 Best Buys Mazda awards

Mazda Has Four Cars at the Top of the Consumer Guide 2017 Best Buys List

Mazda is bringing home more awards, including a recent accolade from the Consumer Guide 2017 Best Buys list. Four models were named top in their class, including the Mazda3, Mazda6, Mazda CX-3, and Mazda MX-5 Miata. If you’re looking for a truly award-winning ride, check out the latest from Mazda’s 2017 lineup.

According to Mazda, the Consumer Guide list is based on a range of attributes, especially value. In other words, the company is looking for the highest quality, affordability, and features. Mazda vehicles come with high scores in each of these categories, making them great buying options for virtually any driver. The Mazda3 took home the gold in the Compact Class, the Mazda6 in Midsize Car, the CX-3 in Subcompact Crossover, and the Miata in Sporty/Performance Class.

As stated by Consumer Guide Automotive, “a vehicle does not become a Best Buy solely on objective ratings. It also has to distinguish itself as being a good dollar value compared to others in the class.”

Mazda also recently won several other awards, including one from Wards for the turbocharged Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine and from Autoweek for the “Motorsports Constructor of the Year.” Nothing tops Mazda vehicles, and the 2017 model year is proving just how great this brand truly is.

fixing a flat

Changing a Flat Tire Made Easy: Tips for Blowouts

Changing a flat tire can be difficult, especially in bad weather, heavy traffic, or if you’ve simply never done it before. That’s why we’ve put together some tips and tricks for what to do if you get a flat. From preparation to tightening the lug nuts, there are some important things to keep in mind.

To begin with, according to Car Talk, you should test out your equipment. Know where the spare tire is located, which can be under the car or in a compartment in the trunk, and be sure to test out the jack. If it’s difficult to use, consider buying a new one. Also, see if you have trouble lifting the tire. If you can’t manage, consider getting fix-a-flat, run-flat tires, or roadside assistance.

Next, if you get a flat tire, you need to get to safety. Many highways have emergency lanes for this exact situation, but those can still be dangerous in heavy traffic. You can drive roughly 300 yards on a flat tire before you begin to damage the rim (depending on the blowout and other factors), so try to find an exit or empty parking lot. It’s not a good idea to accept help from strangers, as this can be dangerous as well. Be sure to use your hazards and flares, too.

Finally, there are some tips for actually changing the tire. Loosen the nuts when it’s on the ground, as it can be difficult with the tire spinning in the air. Then, use the emergency brake when lifting the car. When tightening lug nuts, move in a crossing pattern, tightening the lug nut on the opposite side of the wheel. Once you tighten the lug nuts in a star-like pattern, the wheel will be more secure.

What’s next? Bring your flat into our service center. Our staff can help you find new tires, fix flats, or repair other damage.

New Mazda CX-5 - McKinney, TX

All-New Mazda CX-5 Engine Option is a Diesel

Diesel engines are all the rage in the European automotive market, but they don’t have the same popularity in North America. This is about to change, though, thanks to Mazda. The Japanese carmaker recently announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show that the all-new Mazda CX-5 engine option will be the brand’s SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel.

“We’re confident this engine offers a smart new option for North American drivers who want both performance and fuel economy,” said Akira Marumoto, Mazda’s Executive Vice President and Representative Director.

This new diesel engine will arrive in the North American market for the second half of 2017. It will make the Mazda CX-5 one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class, thanks to the fact that it meets the region’s strict emission standards. In addition, the engine quiets the sound of diesel knock with technology like Natural Sound Smoother and Natural Sound Frequency Control.

The diesel engine isn’t just fuel-efficient, though—it is also powerful. It revs freely to high RPMs, which means that it will accelerate quickly and provide a fun driving experience for all drivers. When a driver chooses the new Mazda CX-5 engine option, they are sure to fall in love with driving all over again.
